Colin and Ashlyn Hughes

Colin and Ashlyn are so excited to be leading the Tanzania expedition! They met in high school where they quickly became friends, but never dated. After both serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, they graduated from the friend zone and eventually got married in December 2023. They both love spending time together outdoors and are passionate about finding the best Hawaiian and Thai food in Utah!

Colin is an avid basketball player and fly-fisherman. He served his mission in Tanzania, where he lived for two years and learned Swahili. He even got to see some of his basketball friends during his service when the first Tanzania ROAM trip visited the church in his area! Ever since leaving Tanzania, all Colin has wanted to do is go back. He has a deep love for the people, language, and culture there. Colin is currently studying Psychology at Utah Valley University with the goal of becoming a mental health therapist. Colin cares deeply for others and has a strong desire to improve their lives in any way he can. When Colin isn’t fishing or studying, he’s focused on growing his window washing business, which he has lovingly named “Safi Windows,” with “safi” meaning “clean” in Swahili.

Ashlyn loves doing anything outside, baking sourdough bread, and secretly loves Harry Potter books. She was fortunate enough to attend Illuminate Youth Trips as a teenager, which filled her with a love and desire for travel, different cultures, and new experiences. Serving her mission in Southern Brazil and learning Portuguese only deepened that love. Ashlyn is studying Environmental Science at Brigham Young University and is passionate about taking care of our beautiful Earth and teaching sustainable practices to others. With Ashlyn’s introverted nature, she has an eye for detail and problem solving, which she carries into every aspect of her life. Her dream is to be a mother, with her motto in life being to leave places – and people – better than you found them.

They are thrilled to explore Tanzania and serve the people with you!
